Treasure Island References

I made this page because for when I was on Pirate101 after reading Treasure Island, I've noticed that there are several references, if not similarities in names, to the book, so I thought I'd put some I found here.

*NOTICE*
The pictures are put in the order of the Pirate101 story line.
I have done my best not to put any spoilers in here, so feel free to read this even if you're planning to read the book.
Since the book Treasure Island  is not a picture book, the pictures used to reference the character in the book are from the 1950 Disney Movie Treasure Island, which was based off of the book.

This reference wasn't made by Kingsisle themselves. I decided to name my character after Jim Hawkins, the main character and heroine of the book. Over the course of Pirate101, our pirate plays key roles in the story line. From getting Captain Avery's Amulet back, to getting pieces of Pollo's map, and more. In the Treasure Island book, Jim Hawkins plays a key role in getting the treasure. He retrieves the map to the treasure, and learns valuable information that helps him and his allies make it to safety.

In general, I think these two characters are much alike. Both are leaders that take charge in dire situations and issue good commands that help them and their men be safe. Lieutenant Smollet tells you what he needs of you in order to defeats the troggies, and gives you a very valuable lead in finding Captain Avery's Amulet. Captain Smollett from the book, is also a calm and take-charge kind of guy. When things turn for the worse, he is giving commands to his men that proves to be helpful in saving them, if they choose to follow them.

Unlike the previous two characters, Ensign & Doctor Livsey are a little bit different. Ensign Livsey is that little frog that leads you to Fin Dorsal and Captain Avery's amulet. Other than that he doesn't play much of a key role. Doctor Livsey on the other hand plays a much bigger role in the book as one of the main characters. No stranger to violence, Doctor Livsey is willing to help anyone, friend or foe, liked or disliked, feel better. From beginning of the book, to the end, he does just that to people he encounters, even if he doesn't take a fancy to the people he treats.

As you can see from the above picture, these two characters are also quite different. Captain Gunn is a famous pirate, highly successful for smuggling yum fruit from Mooshu to Skull Island and inventing all kinds of delicacies, including Yum. Ben Gunn in the Treasure Island book isn't as lucky. Jim Hawkins meets this man on Treasure Island and finds out he's been marooned on the island. Even though he starts out as a poor, lonely man however, he does play a very important role in finding the treasure. What that role is, you'll have to find out by reading.

Mr. Trelawney in Pirate101 is a housing vendor in Skull Island in the shopping district, selling wares to fill up the empty space in your home. Like the previous characters, Squire Trelawney plays a bigger role in the book as one of the main characters. The Squire is the one who pays for the whole expedition to find the treasure, as a rather rich man, that serves no problem. He buys the boat and hires the crew, but has a hard time keeping a secret.

The previous characters I said were a bit different from each other, but other than both of them being blind, Blind Mew and Blind Pew are total opposites. Blind Mew is a kind old cat, that helps our player with his sharp senses of hearing and smell. He knows what passes through and when, which makes me want to put some gold in that cup he holds. Blind Pew on the other hand is nothing of the sort. At first glance he seems like a helpless blind man wandering through the streets with cane and all, but as Jim Hawkins discovers soon after meeting him, he is much more than blind bat.

Ah, these two. Strong John Silver resides in a corner of Gullet and helps our player with some side quests. He may not be the nicest person, but he isn't bad either. Doesn't really play much of a role in the main story line. Long John Silver, as you may have guessed with those eyes of his, is a whole other story. Long John  Silver appears to be a kind man with a vast knowledge of the seas and the pirates that sail them, Long John Silver is quite a seafaring man. Joins the treasure hunting crew with intent to find the treasure, but is there more to Long John Silver than meets the eye?
